Project Abstract
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) plays a critical role in the development of agricultural finance in Nigeria. This research aims to analyze the specific roles and functions of the CBN in promoting agricultural finance development in the country. The study explores the various programs and initiatives undertaken by the CBN to enhance access to finance for agricultural activities, including the Anchor Borrowers Program, Commercial Agricultural Credit Scheme, and the Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund. Moreover, the research identifies and examines the challenges and problems facing the agricultural finance sector in Nigeria, such as limited access to credit, high interest rates, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of financial literacy among farmers. These obstacles hinder the growth and development of the agricultural sector, despite the efforts of the CBN to improve access to finance for farmers. Furthermore, the study delves into the prospects and opportunities for agricultural finance development in Nigeria. It highlights the potential for increased funding, innovative financial instruments, and technological advancements to revolutionize the agricultural finance landscape in the country. By leveraging these opportunities, the CBN can further support the growth and sustainability of the agricultural sector, thereby contributing to food security, poverty reduction, and economic development in Nigeria. In conclusion, the research underscores the pivotal role of the Central Bank of Nigeria in driving agricultural finance development and fostering economic growth in the country. By addressing the challenges and capitalizing on the prospects in the agricultural finance sector, the CBN can enhance financial inclusion, promote sustainable agricultural practices, and empower farmers to increase productivity and income. This research provides valuable insights for policymakers, financial institutions, and stakeholders in the agricultural sector to collaborate and implement strategies that will accelerate the development of agricultural finance in Nigeria.
