Project Abstract
The Gulf of Guinea Commission (GGC) is a regional organization established to promote cooperation among the countries bordering the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa. The region is strategically important due to its rich oil and gas reserves, vibrant maritime trade routes, and abundant fisheries. However, the Gulf of Guinea is also plagued by numerous challenges, including piracy, illegal fishing, and environmental degradation. This research project aims to investigate the role of the Gulf of Guinea Commission in promoting national development in its member states. The study will analyze the various initiatives and programs implemented by the GGC to address the region's challenges and harness its potential for sustainable development. By examining the Commission's activities in the areas of maritime security, economic cooperation, and environmental protection, the research will assess the impact of these efforts on national development outcomes. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative analysis of policy documents and reports with quantitative data analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of the GGC's interventions. Interviews with key stakeholders from member states, regional organizations, and development partners will provide valuable insights into the perceptions and experiences of those involved in the Commission's activities. The findings of this study will contribute to the existing literature on regional integration and development cooperation in Africa. By examining the specific case of the Gulf of Guinea Commission, the research will shed light on the opportunities and challenges of promoting national development through regional cooperation. The study will also offer practical recommendations for policymakers, development practitioners, and other stakeholders working to advance sustainable development in the region. Overall, this research project seeks to deepen our understanding of the role of the Gulf of Guinea Commission in fostering national development in West Africa. By evaluating the Commission's interventions and their impact on member states, the study aims to generate valuable insights that can inform future policy decisions and initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development and economic growth in the region.
