Project Abstract
Public sector accountability is a critical component of good governance and effective public administration. In Nigeria, the success and failure of public sector accountability mechanisms have been the subject of ongoing debate and scrutiny. This research project aims to explore the various factors that contribute to both the successes and failures of public sector accountability in Nigeria. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection methods to provide a comprehensive analysis of the issue. Qualitative methods such as interviews and focus group discussions will be used to gather insights from key stakeholders in the public sector, including government officials, civil society organizations, and the general public. These interviews will focus on understanding the perceptions and experiences of these stakeholders regarding public sector accountability in Nigeria. Quantitative data will be collected through surveys and document analysis to provide a broader perspective on the state of public sector accountability in the country. By analyzing existing data on corruption levels, transparency measures, and public trust in government institutions, the study aims to identify patterns and trends that can help explain the successes and failures of accountability mechanisms in Nigeria. The research will also examine the impact of external factors such as political dynamics, economic conditions, and social norms on public sector accountability. By considering these broader contextual factors, the study seeks to provide a more nuanced understanding of the challenges facing accountability efforts in Nigeria. The findings of this research project are expected to contribute to the existing literature on public sector accountability in Nigeria and offer insights that can inform policy and practice in the country. By identifying the key factors that influence the success or failure of accountability mechanisms, the study aims to provide recommendations for strengthening accountability in the Nigerian public sector. Overall, this research project will shed light on the complexities of public sector accountability in Nigeria and offer valuable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers working in the field of governance and public administration.
