Project Abstract

Small scale industries play a crucial role in the economic development of any country by contributing significantly to employment generation, income distribution, and overall industrial growth. However, one of the major challenges faced by small scale industries is access to adequate financing to support their operations and expansion. Traditional financing options such as bank loans may not always be readily available or may come with high interest rates, making them less feasible for small businesses. Leasing has emerged as a viable alternative financing option for small scale industries. This research project aims to explore leasing as a major financing device for small scale industries, focusing on its benefits, challenges, and overall impact on the growth and sustainability of these businesses. The study will examine the various types of leasing arrangements available to small scale industries, including operating leases, finance leases, and sale-and-leaseback agreements. Through a comprehensive literature review and data analysis, the research will investigate how leasing can help small scale industries acquire essential assets such as machinery, equipment, and vehicles without the need for large upfront capital investments. By spreading the cost of assets over time through lease payments, small businesses can conserve their capital for other operational expenses and working capital requirements. Furthermore, the research will evaluate the impact of leasing on the financial performance of small scale industries, considering factors such as profitability, liquidity, and solvency. By comparing the financial ratios of businesses that utilize leasing with those that rely solely on traditional financing, the study aims to provide insights into the effectiveness of leasing as a financing tool for small businesses. In addition to financial benefits, the research will also explore the non-financial advantages of leasing for small scale industries, such as flexibility in asset management, maintenance services provided by lessors, and potential tax benefits. By understanding the holistic impact of leasing on small businesses, policymakers, financial institutions, and business owners can make informed decisions regarding the use of leasing as a financing device. Overall, this research project seeks to shed light on the role of leasing in supporting the growth and sustainability of small scale industries, offering valuable insights for stakeholders in the small business sector and contributing to the existing body of knowledge on alternative financing mechanisms for small businesses.
