Project Abstract

This project aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of the efficacy and safety of various topical treatments for acne vulgaris, a common skin condition that affects millions of individuals worldwide. Acne vulgaris is characterized by the development of pimples, blackheads, and other blemishes on the skin, often leading to physical discomfort, social stigma, and a significant impact on an individual's quality of life. The project is of particular importance as acne vulgaris is a pervasive dermatological issue that affects individuals of all ages, with an estimated 85% of people experiencing the condition at some point during their lifetime. The primary objective of this project is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a range of topical treatments for acne vulgaris, including but not limited to, retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, antibiotics, and combination therapies. By conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis of the available scientific literature, the project aims to provide healthcare professionals and patients with evidence-based guidance on the most effective and well-tolerated topical treatment options. The methodology of the project will involve a comprehensive search of relevant databases, such as PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library, to identify high-quality clinical studies that have investigated the use of topical treatments for acne vulgaris. The selected studies will be critically appraised, and their findings will be synthesized using statistical techniques to determine the overall effectiveness and safety of the various topical therapies.
