Abstract
Chronic periodontitis is a prevalent oral health condition characterized by inflammation and destruction of the supporting tissues surrounding the teeth, leading to tooth loss if left untreated. Conventional periodontal therapy aims to control the progression of the disease through mechanical debridement and antimicrobial agents. However, recent advancements in dental technology have introduced laser-assisted periodontal therapy as a promising alternative for the management of chronic periodontitis. This research aims to assess the efficacy of laser-assisted periodontal therapy in the treatment of chronic periodontitis, focusing on its clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. The study will consist of a randomized controlled trial involving patients diagnosed with chronic periodontitis. The participants will be divided into two groups one receiving conventional periodontal therapy and the other undergoing laser-assisted periodontal therapy. Clinical parameters such as probing depth, clinical attachment level, bleeding on probing, and plaque index will be measured at baseline and follow-up appointments to evaluate the treatment outcomes. Additionally, patient-reported outcomes, including pain perception, postoperative discomfort, and overall satisfaction with the treatment, will be assessed using standardized questionnaires. The literature review will provide a comprehensive overview of the current evidence regarding the use of laser therapy in periodontal treatment. Previous studies investigating the efficacy of laser-assisted periodontal therapy, different types of lasers used, treatment protocols, and potential advantages and limitations will be discussed to establish a foundation for the research. The research methodology will detail the study design, participant selection criteria, treatment protocols, outcome measures, data collection methods, and statistical analysis plan. Ethical considerations, including patient consent and confidentiality, will be addressed to ensure the safety and well-being of the participants. The discussion of findings will analyze the results obtained from the clinical assessments and patient-reported outcomes, comparing the effectiveness of conventional and laser-assisted periodontal therapy in managing chronic periodontitis. The potential benefits of laser therapy, such as reduced postoperative discomfort, improved healing response, and enhanced patient experience, will be highlighted, along with any limitations or challenges encountered during the study. In conclusion, this research aims to contribute valuable insights into the efficacy of laser-assisted periodontal therapy as a treatment modality for chronic periodontitis. By evaluating both clinical and patient-centered outcomes, this study seeks to provide evidence-based recommendations for the integration of laser technology in periodontal practice, ultimately improving the quality of care and outcomes for patients with chronic periodontitis.
