Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the effectiveness of oral health education in preventing dental caries among school-aged children. Dental caries remains a prevalent oral health issue affecting children worldwide, leading to pain, infection, and potential long-term consequences if left untreated. The study focuses on assessing the impact of structured oral health education programs on promoting oral hygiene practices and reducing the incidence of dental caries in children aged 6-12 years. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. A systematic literature review will be conducted to explore existing evidence on oral health education interventions and their impact on dental caries prevention in children. This review will provide a comprehensive understanding of the current state of knowledge in this area and identify gaps that warrant further investigation. Subsequently, primary data will be collected through surveys, interviews, and observations involving school-aged children, parents, teachers, and dental health professionals. The surveys will assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to oral hygiene among children and their caregivers. Interviews will provide insights into individual experiences and perceptions regarding oral health education programs. Observations will enable the researchers to evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of these programs in real-world settings. The research methodology will include a pre-test/post-test design to measure changes in oral health knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors before and after the intervention. Statistical analysis will be performed to determine the effectiveness of the oral health education program in preventing dental caries and improving oral hygiene practices among participants. Qualitative data analysis will involve thematic coding of interview transcripts to identify recurring patterns and themes related to oral health education and dental caries prevention. The findings of this study are expected to contribute valuable insights to the field of pediatric dentistry and public health. By evaluating the impact of oral health education on dental caries prevention in school-aged children, this research aims to inform the development of evidence-based interventions and policies aimed at improving oral health outcomes in this population. Ultimately, the goal is to empower children and their families with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain good oral hygiene practices and prevent dental caries effectively. In conclusion, this research project seeks to address a critical gap in the literature by examining the impact of oral health education on dental caries prevention in school-aged children. By combining quantitative and qualitative research methods, the study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the effectiveness of oral health education programs and their potential to promote better oral health outcomes among children. The findings of this research have the potential to inform future interventions and policies aimed at reducing the burden of dental caries and improving oral health in the pediatric population.
