Abstract
Periodontitis is a prevalent chronic inflammatory condition affecting the supporting tissues of the teeth. Conventional treatment modalities for periodontitis include scaling and root planing, surgical interventions, and antimicrobial therapy. However, recent advancements in dental technology have introduced laser therapy as a potential alternative or adjunctive treatment for periodontitis. This research aims to assess the efficacy of laser therapy in the treatment of periodontitis by evaluating its impact on clinical parameters and patient outcomes. The study will begin with a comprehensive literature review to establish the current understanding of periodontitis pathogenesis, conventional treatment approaches, and the principles of laser therapy in dentistry. The literature review will explore the mechanisms of action of lasers in periodontal therapy, including their antimicrobial effects, ability to promote tissue healing, and potential for reducing inflammation. Following the literature review, the research methodology will be outlined, detailing the study design, participant selection criteria, treatment protocols, outcome measures, and statistical analysis plan. The study will be designed as a prospective clinical trial, involving a cohort of patients diagnosed with moderate to severe periodontitis. Participants will undergo laser therapy as the primary intervention, with clinical parameters such as probing depth, clinical attachment level, and bleeding on probing being assessed at baseline and follow-up visits. The discussion of findings will present the results of the study, including changes in clinical parameters pre- and post-laser therapy, patient-reported outcomes, and any adverse effects observed during the treatment period. The implications of the findings will be discussed in the context of current treatment guidelines for periodontitis and the potential role of laser therapy as a non-invasive and effective treatment modality. In conclusion, this research aims to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the use of laser therapy in the treatment of periodontitis.
