Project Abstract

This project aims to investigate the effectiveness of dental sealants in preventing dental caries, or tooth decay, in children. Dental caries is a significant public health concern, particularly among children, and it can have long-lasting consequences on their overall health and well-being. Sealants, a preventive dental treatment, have been widely promoted as an effective way to protect children's teeth from developing cavities, but the evidence on their efficacy requires further examination. The project will focus on evaluating the impact of dental sealants on the incidence and progression of dental caries in children, aged 6 to 12 years, over a multi-year period. The study will follow a randomized controlled trial (RCT) design, where participants will be randomly assigned to either a sealant group or a control group. The sealant group will receive the dental sealant treatment, while the control group will receive standard oral hygiene and dental care without sealants. The primary outcome measure will be the incidence of new dental caries, assessed through regular dental examinations and standardized diagnostic criteria. Secondary outcomes will include the progression of existing caries, the need for restorative dental treatments, and the overall oral health status of the participants.
