Body-worn cameras (BWCs) have become increasingly prevalent in law enforcement agencies as a tool to enhance police accountability and citizen perceptions. This research project aims to investigate the impact of body-worn cameras on police accountability and citizen perceptions through a comprehensive analysis of existing literature, empirical studies, and case examples. The study will explore the effectiveness of BWCs in promoting transparency, trust, and accountability within police-citizen interactions, as well as the challenges and limitations associated with their implementation. The research will be guided by a theoretical framework that incorporates key concepts such as surveillance, accountability, trust, and legitimacy in policing. A mixed-methods approach will be utilized, including a systematic review of relevant literature, in-depth interviews with law enforcement officials, community stakeholders, and citizens, as well as a quantitative survey to gather diverse perspectives on the topic. The data collected will be analyzed using thematic analysis and statistical techniques to identify patterns, themes, and correlations. The literature review will examine the historical development of body-worn cameras in policing, the theoretical underpinnings of their implementation, and empirical evidence on their impact on police behavior and citizen perceptions. The research methodology will detail the sampling strategy, data collection methods, data analysis techniques, and ethical considerations involved in the study. Key findings from the study will be discussed in Chapter Four, including insights on the benefits and challenges of implementing body-worn cameras, the influence of BWCs on police accountability and citizen trust, and recommendations for future research and policy implications.
