Abstract
This research study investigates the impact of body-worn cameras (BWCs) on police use of force and citizen complaints through a comparative analysis. The use of BWCs by law enforcement agencies has become increasingly prevalent as a tool for enhancing transparency, accountability, and evidence collection during police-citizen interactions. This study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the effects of BWCs on police behavior and citizen perceptions, comparing outcomes in police departments that have implemented BWC programs with those that have not. The research methodology involves both quantitative and qualitative approaches to gather data from multiple sources, including police records, citizen complaints, officer interviews, and community surveys. A mixed-methods design will be employed to analyze the data, combining statistical analysis with thematic coding to identify patterns and trends in the impact of BWCs on police behavior and citizen complaints. Chapter One introduces the research topic, provides background information on the use of BWCs in law enforcement, presents the problem statement, research objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and defines key terms.
