In recent years, the adoption of police body-worn cameras (BWCs) has become increasingly prevalent as a tool to enhance transparency and accountability in law enforcement practices. This research project aims to investigate the impact of police body-worn cameras on the public perception of law enforcement effectiveness. The study will explore how the presence of BWCs influences public trust in law enforcement, perceptions of police legitimacy, and attitudes towards accountability and transparency in policing. The research will be conducted through a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. Surveys will be administered to members of the public to gather quantitative data on their perceptions of police effectiveness in relation to the use of BWCs. In-depth interviews with key stakeholders, including law enforcement officers, community leaders, and policymakers, will provide qualitative insights into the nuances of public perception and the practical implications of using BWCs in policing. The literature review will examine existing research on the effectiveness of BWCs in improving police transparency, accountability, and public trust. It will also explore theoretical frameworks related to public perceptions of law enforcement and the impact of technology on policing practices. The research methodology will involve sampling a diverse range of participants to ensure a representative sample of public opinions. Data analysis will include statistical analysis of survey responses and thematic analysis of interview transcripts to identify key themes and patterns in the data. Findings from this study are expected to contribute valuable insights to the ongoing discourse on police reform and the use of technology in law enforcement. By examining the relationship between BWCs and public perception, this research aims to inform evidence-based policy recommendations that can enhance trust, accountability, and transparency in policing practices. In conclusion, this research project seeks to shed light on the complex dynamics between police body-worn cameras and public perception of law enforcement effectiveness. By exploring the multifaceted impacts of BWCs on public trust and attitudes towards policing, this study aims to provide actionable recommendations for enhancing the overall effectiveness and legitimacy of law enforcement agencies.
