The rapid advancement and widespread adoption of social media platforms have revolutionized communication and interaction in the digital age. However, along with the benefits of increased connectivity, social media has also given rise to new forms of criminal activity, particularly in the realm of cybercrime. This research project aims to explore the relationship between social media use and cybercrime victimization through a criminological lens. The study begins with a comprehensive literature review that delves into existing research on social media use, cybercrime, and the intersection between the two. Drawing on a range of academic sources, this review highlights the various ways in which social media platforms can serve as both a tool and a target for criminal activities, including identity theft, cyberbullying, phishing scams, and online fraud. Building on this foundational knowledge, the research methodology section outlines the approach taken to investigate the relationship between social media use and cybercrime victimization. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the study combines quantitative surveys to gather data on social media usage patterns and experiences of cybercrime victimization, as well as qualitative interviews to explore the personal narratives and impacts of these incidents. The discussion of findings section presents the results of the study, revealing the complex and multifaceted nature of the relationship between social media use and cybercrime victimization. Analysis of the data uncovers patterns of victimization across different demographic groups, as well as the psychological and emotional consequences of cybercrimes perpetrated through social media platforms. In conclusion, this research project sheds light on the evolving landscape of cybercrime in the context of social media use, offering insights into the factors that contribute to victimization and the strategies that individuals can employ to protect themselves in an increasingly digital world.
