Abstract
Maritime security is a critical aspect of global trade and transportation, with ports serving as key nodes in the supply chain. Information and Communications Technology (ICT) applications have become essential tools in enhancing maritime security measures. This research project focuses on assessing maritime security with a specific emphasis on ICT application at Rivers Port as a case study. The study employs a mixed-method approach to investigate the current maritime security practices at Rivers Port and evaluate the effectiveness of ICT applications in enhancing security measures. Through interviews with port authorities, security personnel, and ICT experts, as well as on-site observations, the research aims to identify the strengths and weaknesses of existing security protocols. Furthermore, the research examines the various ICT tools and systems in place at Rivers Port, such as surveillance cameras, access control systems, and communication networks, to determine their contribution to overall security preparedness. By analyzing data on past security incidents and response times, the study seeks to highlight areas where ICT applications have been successful in preventing or mitigating security threats. Moreover, the research project explores the challenges and limitations faced in the implementation of ICT-based security solutions at Rivers Port. Factors such as infrastructure constraints, cybersecurity risks, and human error are considered in assessing the overall effectiveness of ICT applications in improving maritime security. The findings of this study aim to provide valuable insights for port authorities, security agencies, and ICT providers on optimizing the use of technology for enhancing maritime security. By identifying best practices and recommending strategies for overcoming implementation barriers, the research contributes to the ongoing efforts to strengthen security measures at Rivers Port and similar maritime facilities. In conclusion, this research project underscores the importance of integrating ICT applications into maritime security frameworks to address evolving threats and vulnerabilities in the maritime domain. By leveraging technology effectively, ports can enhance their resilience to security risks and ensure the safe and efficient flow of goods and services.
