Abstract
This research project delves into the intricate dynamics of fabricating social order through a critical examination of police power throughout history. The study focuses on analyzing the evolution of policing practices, ideologies, and structures, emphasizing the ways in which power is wielded and legitimized within society. By tracing the historical development of police institutions from their origins to contemporary manifestations, this research aims to uncover the underlying mechanisms that shape and maintain social order. The project adopts a critical lens to interrogate the role of police power in regulating and controlling populations. It seeks to challenge conventional narratives that portray policing as a neutral force for maintaining law and order, arguing instead that police practices are deeply embedded in systems of power and domination. Through a detailed analysis of historical case studies, theoretical frameworks, and empirical data, the research explores how police power has been used to uphold existing social hierarchies, enforce state authority, and suppress dissent. By examining the intersection of race, class, gender, and other forms of social differentiation with police power, this project sheds light on the ways in which policing practices have been used to perpetuate inequality and injustice. It traces the historical roots of discriminatory policing practices and their enduring impact on marginalized communities, highlighting the need for critical reflection and reform within contemporary policing institutions.
