Abstract
Osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint disease affecting dogs, leading to pain, stiffness, and decreased mobility. Traditional treatment options often provide limited relief and may have adverse effects. Stem cell therapy has emerged as a promising alternative for managing osteoarthritis by promoting tissue regeneration and reducing inflammation. This research project aims to investigate the effectiveness of stem cell therapy in treating osteoarthritis in dogs. The study will begin with a comprehensive review of existing literature on osteoarthritis in dogs and the current treatment modalities available. The literature review will explore the mechanisms of action of stem cells in promoting tissue repair and reducing inflammation, providing a theoretical foundation for the research. The research methodology will involve a randomized controlled trial with a sample of dogs diagnosed with osteoarthritis. Dogs will be randomly assigned to receive either stem cell therapy or a control treatment, and their progress will be monitored over a specified period. Various outcome measures such as pain scores, joint mobility, and radiographic findings will be evaluated to assess the effectiveness of stem cell therapy. The findings of the study will be discussed in detail in Chapter Four, highlighting any significant improvements in the dogs receiving stem cell therapy compared to the control group. The discussion will also address any challenges encountered during the study and potential implications for clinical practice. In conclusion, this research project aims to provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of stem cell therapy in treating osteoarthritis in dogs. By elucidating the potential benefits of this novel treatment approach, the study aims to contribute to the advancement of veterinary medicine and improve the quality of life for dogs suffering from osteoarthritis.
