Abstract
Chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a common gastrointestinal disorder in cats that can lead to various health complications and reduced quality of life. Probiotics have been gaining attention for their potential therapeutic effects on gut health by modulating the intestinal microbiota and immune responses. This study aims to investigate the effects of probiotics on gut health in cats with chronic IBD. The research will be conducted using a randomized controlled trial design, with cats diagnosed with chronic IBD as the study population. The intervention group will receive a specific probiotic supplement daily for a specified duration, while the control group will receive a placebo. Various parameters related to gut health, including fecal microbiota composition, inflammatory markers, and clinical symptoms, will be assessed before and after the intervention period. The literature review reveals a growing body of evidence supporting the use of probiotics in managing gastrointestinal disorders in various animal species, including cats. Studies have reported beneficial effects of probiotics in modulating gut microbiota composition, reducing inflammation, and improving clinical outcomes in cats with IBD. However, the specific mechanisms underlying these effects and the optimal probiotic strains and dosages for cats with IBD remain to be elucidated.
