Abstract
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common degenerative joint disease affecting dogs, leading to pain, lameness, and reduced quality of life. Traditional treatment options often provide temporary relief without addressing the underlying causes. Stem cell therapy has emerged as a promising regenerative medicine approach for managing OA by promoting tissue repair and reducing inflammation. This research aims to explore the use of stem cell therapy in treating OA in dogs. The study begins with an overview of the background of OA in dogs, highlighting the prevalence, etiology, and clinical manifestations of the disease. The problem statement underscores the limitations of current treatment modalities and the need for more effective and long-lasting solutions. The objectives of the study include evaluating the efficacy of stem cell therapy in alleviating OA symptoms, assessing the safety profile of the treatment, and investigating potential mechanisms of action. The research methodology involves a comprehensive literature review to examine existing evidence on stem cell therapy for OA in dogs. Ten key themes are identified, covering topics such as stem cell sources, administration routes, treatment protocols, and clinical outcomes. The methodology also includes in vitro and in vivo experiments to elucidate the biological effects of stem cells on joint tissues and immune responses. The findings from these experiments are discussed in Chapter Four, which explores the regenerative potential of stem cells in modulating cartilage degradation, reducing synovial inflammation, and improving joint function. The results indicate that stem cell therapy holds promise in promoting tissue repair and enhancing the overall joint health in dogs with OA. In conclusion, this research provides valuable insights into the use of stem cell therapy as a novel approach for managing OA in dogs. The study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the efficacy and safety of stem cell-based treatments for degenerative joint diseases.
