Project Abstract

This project aims to investigate the alarming issue of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) at the human-animal interface. Companion animals, such as dogs and cats, are increasingly recognized as potential reservoirs and vectors of drug-resistant bacteria, posing a significant threat to public health. The close and intimate relationship between these animals and their owners amplifies the potential for the transmission of resistant microorganisms, with serious implications for both human and animal health. The project will focus on assessing and comparing the prevalence and patterns of antimicrobial resistance in companion animals and their owners.
