Abstract
Urban green spaces play a pivotal role in enhancing the well-being of residents within residential areas. This research project aims to assess the impact of urban green spaces on mental health in residential areas. The study recognizes the importance of green spaces in urban environments and their potential to contribute to psychological well-being. Through a comprehensive literature review, the research examines existing studies on the relationship between urban green spaces and mental health. The methodology involves both quantitative and qualitative approaches to gather data on the perceptions and experiences of residents in selected residential areas. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and definition of key terms. Chapter Two comprises a detailed literature review that explores ten key aspects related to urban green spaces and mental health, including the benefits of green spaces, the impact on mental health, and factors influencing this relationship. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology, detailing the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, data analysis procedures, ethical considerations, and limitations of the study. In Chapter Four, the research findings are discussed comprehensively, focusing on seven key aspects derived from the data analysis. These include the perceptions of residents towards urban green spaces, the utilization patterns of green spaces, the effects of green spaces on mental health, and the challenges faced in accessing and maintaining green spaces in urban areas. The discussion integrates the findings with the existing literature to provide a holistic understanding of the impact of urban green spaces on mental health within residential areas. Chapter Five presents the conclusion and summary of the research project, highlighting the key findings, implications for urban planning and policy-making, recommendations for future research, and concluding remarks. The research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the significance of urban green spaces in promoting mental health and well-being in residential areas. By understanding the relationship between green spaces and mental health, urban planners and policymakers can develop strategies to enhance the quality of life for residents in urban environments. Overall, this research project underscores the importance of urban green spaces as essential components of sustainable urban planning and design, with the potential to positively impact the mental health and well-being of residents in residential areas.
