The rapid urbanization trend in recent decades has led to increased pressure on urban areas to become more efficient, sustainable, and liveable. Smart city initiatives have emerged as a promising solution to address these challenges by integrating technology and data-driven approaches into urban planning and management. This research project aims to assess the impact of smart city initiatives on sustainable urban development. The study begins with an exploration of the background of smart city initiatives and the context of sustainable urban development. The problem statement identifies the key issues faced by urban areas and the potential benefits of implementing smart city solutions. The objectives of the study are to evaluate the effectiveness of smart city initiatives in promoting sustainability, identify the challenges and limitations faced in their implementation, and explore the significance of these initiatives in shaping future urban development strategies. The methodology chapter outlines the research design, data collection methods, and analytical tools used in this study. A comprehensive literature review is conducted to examine existing knowledge and research findings related to smart city initiatives and sustainable urban development. The review covers ten key themes, including the principles of smart cities, technological innovations, data analytics, governance models, citizen engagement, environmental sustainability, transportation systems, energy efficiency, social inclusion, and economic development.
