Project Abstract

This project aims to investigate the complex and multifaceted relationship between globalization and the evolution of cultural identities. In an increasingly interconnected world, the forces of globalization have profoundly impacted the way individuals and communities perceive and express their cultural traditions, values, and affiliations. The study will delve into the various mechanisms through which globalization influences the shaping and transformation of cultural identities. It will explore how the exchange of ideas, goods, and people across national boundaries has led to the blending and hybridization of cultural practices, challenging traditional notions of cultural purity and homogeneity. The project will examine the ways in which global media, technology, and communication platforms have facilitated the dissemination and reimagining of cultural narratives, enabling both the preservation and the adaptation of cultural elements. Furthermore, the research will investigate the role of migration, diaspora communities, and transnational networks in the negotiation and renegotiation of cultural identities. It will explore how individuals and groups navigate the tensions between their ancestral roots and the influences of their host societies, and how these dynamics shape their sense of belonging and cultural affiliation. Importantly, the project will also shed light on the potential tensions and conflicts that may arise from the interplay between globalization and cultural identity.
