Project Abstract

This project explores the intricate relationship between religious syncretism and the formation of cultural identity in contemporary societies. As globalization continues to shape the social and cultural landscape, the blending of diverse religious traditions has become increasingly prominent, leading to a complex interplay between individual and collective identities. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the ways in which the phenomenon of religious syncretism influences the construction and negotiation of cultural identity. By examining case studies from various regions, the project aims to shed light on the nuanced dynamics that emerge when multiple religious traditions converge, and how these dynamics impact the ways in which individuals and communities navigate their cultural affiliations. The project begins by analyzing the historical and theoretical underpinnings of religious syncretism, exploring the sociocultural conditions that have facilitated the emergence of hybrid religious practices and beliefs. It delves into the conceptual frameworks that have been developed to understand the complex interplay between religion, culture, and identity, drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives from fields such as anthropology, sociology, and religious studies.
