Project Abstract

This project aims to explore the pivotal role that religion can play in fostering environmental sustainability in the modern era. In a world grappling with the escalating climate crisis, resource depletion, and ecological degradation, there is a growing recognition that traditional belief systems and spiritual teachings can offer invaluable insights and practical solutions to address these pressing challenges. The project will delve into the various ways in which different religious traditions – from Christianity and Islam to Hinduism, Buddhism, and Indigenous belief systems – have conceptualized the relationship between humanity and the natural world. It will examine how core religious principles, such as stewardship, reverence for creation, and interconnectedness, can inform and inspire environmentally sustainable attitudes, behaviors, and policies.
