Enhancing citizen engagement and participation in local government decision-making processes is crucial for fostering transparency, accountability, and good governance at the grassroots level. This research project aims to investigate the current state of citizen engagement in local government decision-making processes and propose strategies to improve and enhance citizen participation. The study will focus on understanding the challenges and barriers that hinder effective citizen engagement, as well as exploring best practices and innovative approaches to promote greater involvement of citizens in the decision-making processes of local governments. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with key stakeholders, including local government officials, community leaders, and residents. The data collected will be analyzed to identify patterns, trends, and gaps in citizen engagement practices within local government structures. Additionally, a comprehensive review of relevant literature on citizen engagement, public administration, and participatory governance will provide theoretical insights and practical frameworks for the research. The research will be structured into five main chapters. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and definitions of key terms. Chapter Two presents a detailed literature review on citizen engagement, participatory governance, local government decision-making processes, and best practices in enhancing citizen participation.
