The advent of electronic government (e-government) services has transformed the landscape of citizen-government interaction, offering new opportunities for engagement and participation in local governance processes. This research seeks to investigate the impact of e-government services on citizen participation in local governance. The study will explore the extent to which e-government initiatives influence citizen engagement, decision-making, and overall effectiveness of local governance structures. The research will be guided by a mixed-methods approach, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods to provide a comprehensive analysis of the topic. Primary data will be gathered through surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions with citizens, government officials, and experts in the field of public administration. Secondary data will be collected through a comprehensive review of relevant literature, reports, and case studies on e-government and citizen participation. Chapter One of the study will introduce the research topic, provide background information on e-government services and citizen participation in local governance, present the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and define key terms. Chapter Two will consist of a detailed literature review covering ten key themes related to e-government, citizen participation, local governance, and their interplay. Chapter Three will focus on research methodology, detailing the research design, sampling techniques, data collection methods, data analysis procedures, and ethical considerations. The chapter will also discuss the theoretical framework guiding the study and address any potential limitations in the research methodology. Chapter Four will present the findings of the study, including an in-depth analysis of the data collected and a discussion of the implications of these findings on the research topic. The study aims to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on e-government and citizen participation in local governance by providing insights into the benefits and challenges associated with the use of e-government services. The findings of this research are expected to inform policymakers, government officials, and other stakeholders on strategies to enhance citizen engagement and participation in local governance through effective e-government initiatives. In conclusion, this research will shed light on the impact of e-government services on citizen participation in local governance, offering valuable insights for improving governance processes and fostering inclusive decision-making practices.
