The rise of social media platforms has revolutionized the way individuals interact and engage with political processes in democracies worldwide. This research aims to investigate the impact of social media on political participation and engagement within democratic societies. The study will delve into the various ways in which social media platforms have influenced political discourse, citizen involvement, and overall democratic governance. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, outlining the background of the study and identifying the problem statement. The objectives of the study are clearly defined, along with the limitations and scope of the research. The significance of the study in understanding the evolving dynamics of political participation through social media is highlighted, and the structure of the research is presented. Additionally, key terms relevant to the study are defined to provide clarity and context. Chapter Two consists of a comprehensive literature review that examines existing research on the relationship between social media and political participation. Ten key themes are explored, including the role of social media in mobilizing citizens, the impact on political campaigns, the influence of echo chambers on public opinion, and the potential for disinformation and fake news to shape political narratives.
