This research project aims to analyze the impact of military rule on political transitions in Nigeria, focusing on key historical events and their implications for the country's governance structure. The study will examine the role of the military in Nigerian politics, tracing the origins of military intervention in governance and its effects on the country's political landscape. By analyzing the patterns of military coups and transitions, the research will explore how military rule has influenced the development of democratic institutions in Nigeria. Furthermore, the project will investigate the strategies employed by military regimes to legitimize their rule and maintain power, including the suppression of opposition groups and the manipulation of electoral processes. By examining case studies of military regimes in Nigeria, such as the rule of General Sani Abacha and General Ibrahim Babangida, the research will provide insights into the tactics used by military leaders to consolidate their authority.
