Project Abstract

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on cardiorespiratory fitness in sedentary individuals. Sedentary lifestyles have become increasingly prevalent in modern society, leading to a rise in cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders. HIIT has gained popularity as an efficient and time-effective exercise strategy that can improve cardiorespiratory fitness. The research utilized a randomized controlled trial design, with participants assigned to either a HIIT intervention group or a control group. The HIIT protocol consisted of short bursts of high-intensity exercise followed by brief periods of rest or low-intensity exercise. Cardiorespiratory fitness was assessed using standardized measures such as VO2 max, heart rate, and blood pressure before and after the intervention period. The literature review revealed a substantial body of evidence supporting the efficacy of HIIT in improving cardiorespiratory fitness in various populations, including sedentary individuals. The research methodology involved recruiting sedentary individuals aged 18-50 years with no prior experience in structured exercise programs. Participants underwent a 12-week HIIT intervention, consisting of three sessions per week, with progressive increases in intensity and duration. The results of the study demonstrated significant improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness parameters in the HIIT group compared to the control group. Specifically, the HIIT group showed a marked increase in VO2 max, a decrease in resting heart rate, and improvements in blood pressure levels. These findings suggest that HIIT can effectively enhance cardiorespiratory fitness in sedentary individuals within a relatively short intervention period. The discussion of findings highlighted the physiological mechanisms underlying the benefits of HIIT on cardiorespiratory fitness, including improvements in aerobic capacity, cardiac function, and vascular health. The implications of these findings are significant for promoting physical activity and preventing chronic diseases associated with sedentary behavior. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the effects of HIIT on cardiorespiratory fitness in sedentary individuals. The results support the use of HIIT as a feasible and effective exercise strategy for improving cardiovascular health in this population. Future research should explore the long-term effects of HIIT and investigate optimal training protocols for different demographic groups. Ultimately, incorporating HIIT into public health initiatives may help combat the growing epidemic of sedentary lifestyles and associated health risks.
