Abstract
A.J. Ayer, a prominent figure in logical positivism, argued for the elimination of metaphysics from philosophical discourse. This research project explores Ayer's views on metaphysics and his reasons for advocating its elimination. Ayer believed that metaphysical statements are meaningless as they cannot be empirically verified, leading to his famous verification principle. By applying this principle, Ayer sought to rid philosophy of what he considered to be meaningless pseudo-statements that have no basis in empirical evidence. This abstract provides an overview of Ayer's position on metaphysics and his proposed elimination of metaphysical discourse from philosophy.
