Abstract
Telemedicine, the provision of healthcare services remotely through technology, has gained significant attention in recent years for its potential to improve healthcare access and outcomes. This research project aims to explore the impact of telemedicine on the management of pediatric asthma in rural areas. Asthma is a common chronic respiratory condition in children, and managing it effectively is crucial to prevent exacerbations and improve quality of life. However, children in rural areas often face barriers to accessing specialized care due to geographical limitations and lack of healthcare facilities. The research will begin with a comprehensive introduction that sets the context for the study, followed by a background of the study that outlines the current challenges in managing pediatric asthma in rural areas. The problem statement will highlight the gaps in healthcare access and quality for children with asthma in these settings. The objectives of the study are to assess the effectiveness of telemedicine in managing pediatric asthma, identify barriers to its implementation in rural areas, and explore the perceptions of healthcare providers and caregivers towards telemedicine. The study will be conducted using a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of health outcomes and qualitative interviews with healthcare providers and caregivers. The literature review will examine existing research on telemedicine in pediatric asthma management and highlight gaps in the literature. The research methodology will detail the study design, participant recruitment, data collection methods, and analysis techniques. Findings from the study will be discussed in Chapter Four, focusing on the impact of telemedicine on asthma management, challenges in implementation, and stakeholder perspectives. The conclusion and summary in Chapter Five will synthesize the key findings, discuss their implications for practice and policy, and suggest recommendations for future research and implementation of telemedicine in pediatric asthma care in rural areas. Overall, this research project seeks to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on telemedicine in pediatric healthcare and provide insights into its potential to improve the management of asthma in rural areas. By addressing the barriers to healthcare access and quality for children with asthma, this study aims to inform strategies for leveraging telemedicine to enhance pediatric healthcare delivery in underserved communities.
