Project Abstract

This project aims to investigate the potential of telehealth in improving the management of chronic diseases among residents in rural communities. Chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease, pose significant challenges in rural areas, where access to healthcare services is often limited, and the distances to medical facilities can be substantial. Telehealth, the use of digital technologies to deliver healthcare remotely, has the capacity to bridge this gap and enhance disease management for individuals living in these underserved regions. The project will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data, to assess the impact of telehealth on various aspects of chronic disease management. The study will be conducted in collaboration with local healthcare providers and community organizations in selected rural areas, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the unique needs and barriers faced by the target population. The first phase of the project will involve a systematic review of existing literature on the use of telehealth in chronic disease management, with a particular focus on studies conducted in rural settings. This review will provide a solid foundation for understanding the current state of research in this field and identify potential areas for further exploration. The second phase will involve the implementation of a telehealth intervention in the selected rural communities. Participants with chronic conditions will be enrolled in the study and provided with the necessary digital tools and training to engage in remote healthcare services, such as virtual consultations, remote monitoring, and personalized treatment plans. The project team will closely monitor the participants' adherence, satisfaction, and clinical outcomes to assess the effectiveness of the telehealth approach.
