Abstract
Music therapy has gained recognition as a valuable tool in promoting mental health and well-being, particularly among adolescents who often face unique challenges during their formative years. This research project aims to explore the impact of music therapy on the mental health of adolescents, focusing on how it can be utilized as an effective intervention to address various psychological issues. The study will investigate the potential benefits of music therapy in enhancing emotional expression, reducing stress and anxiety, and improving overall mental health outcomes in this demographic. The research will be conducted using a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys to gather data on mental health indicators and qualitative interviews to explore the subjective experiences of adolescents participating in music therapy sessions. A sample of adolescents aged 13-18 years will be recruited from schools and community centers to participate in the study. The participants will engage in a series of music therapy sessions over a specified period, during which their mental health will be assessed using standardized measures such as the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS) and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). The literature review will provide a comprehensive overview of existing research on music therapy and its effects on mental health, highlighting key theories and empirical findings related to the topic. The research methodology section will outline the study design, participant recruitment process, data collection procedures, and data analysis methods employed in the study. The findings from the study will be presented and discussed in Chapter Four, focusing on the observed changes in mental health indicators among participants following the music therapy intervention. The results of this research project are expected to contribute valuable insights into the potential benefits of music therapy for promoting mental health in adolescents. By exploring the impact of music therapy on emotional well-being, stress reduction, and overall mental health outcomes, this study aims to provide evidence-based recommendations for integrating music therapy interventions into mental health care practices for adolescents. The research findings will have implications for mental health professionals, educators, and policymakers working with adolescents, highlighting the importance of incorporating creative and expressive therapies into holistic approaches to mental health care.
