Abstract
The emergence of antimicrobial resistance poses a significant threat to public health, emphasizing the urgent need to explore alternative strategies to combat pathogenic bacteria. This research project aims to investigate the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts as potential natural agents against pathogenic bacteria. The research will begin with a comprehensive review of relevant literature to establish the background and theoretical framework for the study. Various plant extracts with known antimicrobial properties will be identified and evaluated for their efficacy against a panel of pathogenic bacteria commonly associated with human infections. The methodology will involve extraction of bioactive compounds from selected plant sources, determination of antimicrobial activity through agar diffusion assays, and characterization of the chemical composition of the active extracts using analytical techniques such as chromatography and spectroscopy. The findings from the experimental investigations will be discussed in Chapter Four, highlighting the antimicrobial efficacy of specific plant extracts and their potential mechanisms of action against pathogenic bacteria. The results will be contextualized within the existing body of knowledge on natural antimicrobial agents and their applications in combating infectious diseases. In conclusion, this research project will provide valuable insights into the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts and their potential as alternative treatment options against pathogenic bacteria.
