The escalating threat of antibiotic resistance has prompted the search for alternative antimicrobial agents, leading to a renewed interest in natural compounds such as plant extracts. This research project aims to investigate the antimicrobial properties of various plant extracts against pathogenic bacteria. The study will focus on evaluating the efficacy of these plant extracts in inhibiting the growth of common pathogenic bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The research will commence with a comprehensive review of the existing literature on the antimicrobial activities of plant extracts against pathogenic bacteria. This literature review will provide a solid foundation for understanding the current state of knowledge in this field and identifying potential research gaps that the study aims to address. Following the literature review, the research methodology will be outlined, detailing the experimental design, materials, and methods used for testing the antimicrobial properties of the plant extracts. The study will employ various techniques such as disc diffusion assays, broth microdilution assays, and biofilm inhibition assays to evaluate the effectiveness of the plant extracts against the selected pathogenic bacteria. The findings from the experiments will be presented and discussed in chapter four, providing a detailed analysis of the antimicrobial activities of the plant extracts. The results will be interpreted in light of the existing literature, highlighting the potential of these natural compounds as alternative antimicrobial agents.
