The phenomenon of code-switching in communication has gained significant attention in linguistics, particularly in the context of multilingual interactions online. This research project aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of code-switching practices in multilingual online discourse to understand the patterns, motivations, and implications of this linguistic phenomenon. Code-switching refers to the alternation between two or more languages within a single conversation or text, and it serves as a unique communicative strategy that reflects the complex linguistic and sociocultural dynamics of multilingual speakers. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the research topic, outlining the background of the study and identifying the problem statement that motivates this research. The objectives of the study are to investigate the patterns of code-switching in multilingual online discourse, identify the factors influencing code-switching behavior, and examine the communicative functions of code-switching in online interactions. The limitations and scope of the study are also discussed, along with the significance of the research in contributing to the broader understanding of multilingual communication practices.
