Abstract
The ability to switch between languages effortlessly and adapt to different linguistic contexts is a unique skill possessed by bilingual individuals. This research project aims to investigate the influence of bilingualism on cognitive flexibility through a comparative study. Cognitive flexibility refers to the mental ability to shift between thinking about two different concepts and to think about multiple concepts simultaneously. This study seeks to explore how bilingual individuals demonstrate enhanced cognitive flexibility compared to monolingual individuals. The research will be conducted using a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. A sample of bilingual and monolingual participants will be recruited to participate in a series of cognitive tasks and questionnaires designed to assess their cognitive flexibility. The tasks will include measures of task-switching, cognitive control, and response inhibition, among others. The literature review will provide a comprehensive overview of previous research on bilingualism, cognitive flexibility, and the relationship between language and cognition. It will explore theories and empirical evidence supporting the notion that bilingualism can lead to cognitive advantages, including enhanced executive functions and cognitive control.
