Abstract
The 2011-2013 strike by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) in Nigeria had significant implications for the country's educational system and the polytechnic sector in particular. This study aimed to conduct an index survey to assess the impact and underlying factors of the ASUP strike during the specified period. The research utilized a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data collection through surveys with qualitative insights from interviews and document analysis. The findings of the study revealed that the ASUP strike of 2011-2013 had far-reaching consequences on the polytechnic education sector in Nigeria. The survey results indicated that the strike disrupted academic calendars, leading to delays in graduation for students and affecting the overall quality of education. Additionally, the research highlighted that the strike exacerbated existing challenges such as inadequate funding, infrastructure decay, and poor working conditions for academic staff. Furthermore, the index survey identified several key factors that contributed to the ASUP strike during the period under review. These factors included issues related to salary discrepancies, lack of government implementation of previous agreements, and the overall neglect of the polytechnic education sector. The qualitative analysis provided deeper insights into the motivations behind the strike action, shedding light on the frustrations of academic staff and the systemic issues plaguing the sector. The study also examined the implications of the ASUP strike on stakeholders within the polytechnic sector, including students, academic staff, administrators, and the government. The research highlighted the need for sustainable solutions to address the root causes of strikes in the polytechnic sector and called for greater government accountability and investment in polytechnic education. In conclusion, the index survey on the 2011-2013 ASUP strike in Nigeria provided valuable insights into the impact and underlying factors of the strike on the polytechnic education sector. The findings underscored the urgent need for policy reforms, increased funding, and improved working conditions to prevent future disruptions and enhance the quality of education in polytechnics.

Down through the ages, education has always been at the for front of human existence, which entails that without education in this 21st century, its really going to be hard for the youths to make through for a better future.

According to Longman Dictionary “education” can be defined as the process to teaching and learning usually at school, college or university, polytechnics on its own is an edifice of teaching and learning.

Strike also was defined as a situation whereby a group of workers stop working for a period of time because they went a better pay or better working conditions. The 2013 academic staff union of polytechnics (ASUP) strike was taken upon because the conditions which they expected the federal government to work on so as to enhance teaching in the various polytechnics in the country was over looked and not paid attention to by the government.
