Project Abstract

Abstract
Intermittent fasting (IF) has gained popularity in recent years as a dietary strategy for weight management and improving metabolic health. This randomized controlled trial aimed to investigate the effects of intermittent fasting on metabolic health in adults with obesity. The study included a total of 100 participants aged 30-50 years with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m2 or above. Participants were randomly assigned to either the intermittent fasting group or the control group for a duration of 12 weeks. The research design involved assessing various metabolic parameters, including fasting glucose levels, insulin sensitivity, lipid profiles, and inflammatory markers. The intermittent fasting group followed a 168 fasting protocol, where they fasted for 16 hours and had an 8-hour eating window each day. The control group maintained their regular dietary habits without any fasting restrictions. Results from the study indicated significant improvements in metabolic health parameters in the intermittent fasting group compared to the control group. Participants in the intermittent fasting group showed a significant decrease in fasting glucose levels, improved insulin sensitivity, and favorable changes in lipid profiles. Additionally, markers of inflammation were reduced in the intermittent fasting group, suggesting potential anti-inflammatory effects of intermittent fasting. This study provides valuable insights into the potential benefits of intermittent fasting for improving metabolic health in adults with obesity. The findings highlight the effectiveness of intermittent fasting as a dietary intervention for managing obesity-related metabolic dysregulation. Further research is warranted to explore the long-term effects of intermittent fasting on metabolic health and its implications for clinical practice. Keywords Intermittent fasting, metabolic health, obesity, randomized controlled trial, fasting glucose, insulin sensitivity, lipid profiles, inflammatory markers.

Project Overview

The project titled "Effects of Intermittent Fasting on Metabolic Health in Adults with Obesity: A Randomized Controlled Trial" aims to investigate the impact of intermittent fasting on the metabolic health of adults with obesity through a rigorous randomized controlled trial. Obesity is a significant public health issue globally, associated with various metabolic abnormalities such as insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and inflammation, which increase the risk of chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and certain cancers. Intermittent fasting, characterized by alternating cycles of fasting and eating, has gained popularity as a dietary intervention for weight management and metabolic health improvement. The randomized controlled trial design ensures robust and reliable results by randomly assigning participants to either an intermittent fasting group or a control group, where the intervention group follows a specific intermittent fasting protocol while the control group maintains regular dietary habits. By comparing outcomes between the two groups, the study aims to assess the specific effects of intermittent fasting on metabolic parameters in adults with obesity. Key aspects of the research will include detailed measurements of metabolic health markers such as blood glucose levels, lipid profiles, inflammatory markers, and body composition changes before and after the intervention period. Additionally, adherence to the intermittent fasting protocol, potential side effects, and participant feedback will be carefully monitored to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the intervention. The findings of this study have the potential to contribute valuable insights into the role of intermittent fasting as a therapeutic approach for improving metabolic health in adults with obesity. The research outcomes may inform healthcare professionals, policymakers, and individuals seeking effective strategies for managing obesity-related metabolic complications. Ultimately, this project aims to advance scientific knowledge in the field of nutrition and dietetics, providing evidence-based recommendations for promoting metabolic health in individuals with obesity.
