Project Abstract

Abstract
Intermittent fasting (IF) has gained significant attention in recent years as a potential strategy for weight management and improving metabolic health in adults. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effects of intermittent fasting on weight management and metabolic health outcomes in adult populations. A comprehensive search of electronic databases was conducted to identify relevant studies published up to [insert date]. Inclusion criteria encompassed randomized controlled trials and observational studies that assessed the impact of intermittent fasting on weight loss, body composition, metabolic markers, and overall health parameters in adults aged 18 years and older. The literature search yielded a total of [insert number] studies meeting the inclusion criteria, which were then subjected to rigorous screening and data extraction. Results from the meta-analysis revealed that intermittent fasting interventions were associated with statistically significant reductions in body weight, body mass index, and body fat percentage compared to control groups. Additionally, fasting regimens demonstrated improvements in metabolic markers such as insulin sensitivity, blood glucose levels, lipid profiles, and inflammatory markers. Subgroup analyses based on different types of intermittent fasting protocols (e.g., alternate-day fasting, time-restricted feeding) were conducted to explore variations in outcomes. Findings suggested that variations in fasting duration and frequency influenced the magnitude of weight loss and metabolic improvements observed in participants. Furthermore, adherence to intermittent fasting regimens appeared to play a crucial role in achieving sustainable weight management and metabolic benefits. Despite the overall positive effects of intermittent fasting on weight management and metabolic health outcomes, several limitations were identified across the included studies. These limitations encompassed variations in study designs, sample sizes, fasting protocols, and duration of interventions, which may have influenced the generalizability and robustness of the findings. Moreover, potential biases and confounding factors within individual studies could have impacted the overall pooled estimates. In conclusion, this systematic review and meta-analysis provide valuable insights into the effects of intermittent fasting on weight management and metabolic health in adults. The findings support the potential benefits of incorporating intermittent fasting as a viable strategy for achieving weight loss and improving metabolic markers in adult populations. However, further well-designed randomized controlled trials with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up periods are warranted to validate these findings and elucidate the optimal protocols for implementing intermittent fasting regimens in clinical practice.
