Abstract
This research study explores the profound impact of colonialism on indigenous cultures, with a specific focus on Nigeria. Through a comprehensive analysis of historical records, literature reviews, and primary data collection, this research aims to shed light on the lasting effects of colonial rule on the cultural heritage and identity of indigenous communities in Nigeria. The study delves into the complexities of colonial encounters, examining the ways in which European powers imposed their languages, religions, political systems, and social norms on indigenous populations, leading to significant disruptions and transformations in traditional ways of life. The research is structured into five main chapters. Chapter One provides an introduction to the study, offering a background of the research topic, articulating the problem statement, outlining the objectives of the study, discussing the limitations and scope of the research, highlighting the significance of the study, presenting the structure of the research, and defining key terms. Chapter Two is dedicated to an in-depth literature review that critically examines existing scholarship on the impact of colonialism on indigenous cultures, drawing on a wide range of academic sources and theoretical frameworks. Chapter Three details the research methodology employed in this study, outlining the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis procedures. The chapter also discusses ethical considerations and limitations encountered during the research process.
