Abstract
Colonialism has left a lasting impact on indigenous cultures across the globe, particularly in regions like Africa and Southeast Asia. This research project aims to conduct a comparative study to explore the multifaceted repercussions of colonialism on the traditional ways of life, beliefs, practices, and identities of indigenous peoples in these two regions. The study will delve into the historical context of colonial rule in Africa and Southeast Asia, examining the mechanisms through which colonial powers imposed their authority and influenced indigenous cultures. By analyzing a wide range of historical sources, scholarly works, and primary accounts, this research seeks to identify common patterns and distinct differences in the colonial experiences of indigenous communities in Africa and Southeast Asia. The comparative approach will enable a nuanced understanding of how colonial policies, economic exploitation, social reengineering, and cultural assimilation strategies impacted the indigenous populations differently in these two regions. The research methodology will involve a combination of archival research, qualitative analysis, and comparative case studies to provide a comprehensive assessment of the colonial legacies on indigenous cultures. Through in-depth interviews, surveys, and fieldwork, the project aims to capture the voices and perspectives of indigenous communities that have inherited the legacy of colonial rule. The findings of this study are expected to shed light on the enduring effects of colonialism on indigenous cultures in Africa and Southeast Asia, highlighting the challenges faced by these communities in reclaiming and revitalizing their cultural heritage in the post-colonial era.
