This research project aims to explore and analyze the profound impact of colonialism on traditional African societies, focusing on a comparative study of Nigeria and Ghana. Colonialism, as a historical phenomenon, significantly altered the socio-political, economic, and cultural landscapes of African societies, leaving lasting legacies that continue to shape the present-day realities of these nations. By examining the colonial experiences of Nigeria and Ghana, this study seeks to shed light on the diverse ways in which colonial rule influenced and transformed traditional African institutions, practices, and identities. The research begins with an introduction that outlines the background of the study, presents the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and definitions of key terms. Chapter two provides a comprehensive literature review that explores existing scholarship on colonialism in Africa, traditional African societies, and comparative studies of Nigeria and Ghana. The review synthesizes key themes and debates in the field, offering a critical analysis of relevant theories and perspectives. Chapter three details the research methodology employed in this study, including research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis procedures. It also discusses ethical considerations and limitations of the research process.
