Project Abstract

This study explores the history of oil palm production in Ejigbo community in Ogun State from 1960 to 2000, focusing on its significance in both local and international relations. The research delves into the evolution of oil palm cultivation in Ejigbo over the four-decade period, examining the economic, social, and political impacts of this industry on the community. Through a combination of archival research, interviews, and field observations, the study uncovers the key drivers behind the growth of oil palm production in Ejigbo during the specified timeframe. It analyzes how government policies, technological advancements, market forces, and socio-cultural factors influenced the expansion of oil palm cultivation in the community. The research also investigates the role of local farmers, cooperatives, and agribusiness firms in driving the growth of the oil palm industry in Ejigbo. Furthermore, the study explores the international dimensions of oil palm production in Ejigbo, examining how the global demand for palm oil shaped the local industry.
