Project Abstract

Abstract
This research project focuses on the investigation of Landslide Susceptibility Mapping using Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing Techniques in a selected region. Landslides are one of the most common natural hazards that pose a significant threat to human lives and infrastructure worldwide. Understanding the factors contributing to landslide susceptibility is crucial for effective disaster risk management and mitigation strategies. GIS and Remote Sensing technologies offer valuable tools to assess and map landslide susceptibility by integrating spatial data with various environmental factors. The objectives of this study are to identify the key factors influencing landslide susceptibility, to develop a landslide susceptibility map using GIS and Remote Sensing techniques, and to assess the accuracy of the generated map. The selected region for this study is characterized by its complex topography, geological setting, land cover, and climatic conditions, which are known to influence landslide occurrences. By incorporating these factors into a GIS-based model, the research aims to provide valuable insights into the spatial distribution of landslide susceptibility within the study area. The methodology involves collecting and analyzing various datasets, including digital elevation models, land cover maps, geological maps, rainfall data, and landslide inventory maps. These datasets will be processed and integrated within a GIS environment to create a landslide susceptibility map using spatial analysis techniques. Remote sensing data, such as satellite imagery, will also be utilized to extract additional information on land surface characteristics and changes over time. The findings of this research will contribute to a better understanding of landslide susceptibility in the selected region and provide valuable information for land use planning, disaster risk reduction, and emergency response strategies. The accuracy assessment of the susceptibility map will be conducted using validation techniques to evaluate its reliability and effectiveness for landslide risk assessment. In conclusion, this research project aims to advance the current knowledge on landslide susceptibility mapping by utilizing GIS and Remote Sensing technologies in a selected region. By identifying and mapping areas at high risk of landslides, this study seeks to support decision-makers, planners, and stakeholders in implementing proactive measures to reduce the impact of landslides on society and the environment.

Project Overview

The research project on "Investigation of Landslide Susceptibility Mapping Using GIS and Remote Sensing Techniques in a Selected Region" aims to address the critical issue of landslides, a prevalent natural hazard that poses significant risks to communities and infrastructure in hilly and mountainous regions. Landslides are complex geological phenomena influenced by various natural and anthropogenic factors, making accurate mapping and prediction essential for effective risk management and mitigation strategies. The integration of Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing technologies provides a powerful tool for analyzing and mapping landslide susceptibility by utilizing spatial data, terrain characteristics, and environmental factors. GIS enables the visualization, analysis, and interpretation of spatial data, while Remote Sensing techniques, such as satellite imagery and LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), offer valuable information on terrain features, land cover, and slope stability. By focusing on a selected region prone to landslides, this research seeks to investigate the factors contributing to landslide susceptibility and develop a comprehensive mapping model using GIS and Remote Sensing techniques. The selected region serves as a case study to demonstrate the application and effectiveness of these technologies in identifying high-risk areas, assessing vulnerability, and predicting potential landslide occurrences. The research overview will encompass a multidisciplinary approach, integrating geology, geography, environmental science, and technology to enhance our understanding of landslide dynamics and improve hazard assessment and management strategies. Through the analysis of spatial data, terrain characteristics, and environmental variables, the research aims to establish a robust methodology for landslide susceptibility mapping that can be applied to similar regions facing similar geological hazards. Overall, this research project holds significant implications for disaster risk reduction and sustainable land use planning in landslide-prone areas. By enhancing our ability to predict and mitigate landslide risks through advanced GIS and Remote Sensing techniques, the findings of this study aim to contribute to the development of proactive measures for reducing the impact of landslides on human lives, infrastructure, and the environment.
