Abstract
Climate change is recognized as one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time, with significant implications for coastal regions around the world. Coastal erosion, exacerbated by rising sea levels and changing weather patterns, poses a serious threat to coastal communities, ecosystems, and infrastructure. This research project aims to investigate the impact of climate change on coastal erosion in a specific coastal region, exploring the processes, drivers, and consequences of this phenomenon. The study will begin with a comprehensive literature review to provide a theoretical foundation for understanding the relationship between climate change and coastal erosion. By examining existing research and case studies, the project will identify key factors contributing to coastal erosion, such as sea-level rise, storm surges, and human activities. This review will also highlight current adaptation and mitigation strategies employed in coastal areas to address the challenges posed by climate change. Building on the literature review, the research methodology will involve field surveys, data collection, and analysis to assess the extent and impact of coastal erosion in the selected region. Geographic Information System (GIS) tools will be utilized to map coastal vulnerability and identify areas at high risk of erosion. Interviews with local stakeholders, including government officials, community members, and environmental experts, will provide valuable insights into the social and economic implications of coastal erosion. The findings of the study will be presented in Chapter Four, which will discuss the key trends, patterns, and drivers of coastal erosion observed in the specific coastal region. By analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, the research will evaluate the effectiveness of existing adaptation measures and propose recommendations for enhancing coastal resilience in the face of climate change. The chapter will also explore the social, economic, and environmental implications of coastal erosion on local communities and ecosystems. In conclusion, this research project will contribute to the growing body of knowledge on the impact of climate change on coastal erosion and provide valuable insights for policymakers, planners, and stakeholders working to address this critical issue.
