Project Abstract

Abstract
The quality of groundwater in urban areas is a critical environmental concern due to the potential risks associated with contamination. This research project focuses on the assessment of groundwater quality in urban areas using geospatial techniques to provide valuable insights into the factors influencing water quality and identify potential sources of contamination. The study aims to contribute to the sustainable management of groundwater resources in urban settings by evaluating the spatial distribution of water quality parameters and assessing the impact of anthropogenic activities on groundwater quality. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the research topic, background information on groundwater quality in urban areas, the problem statement, objectives of the study, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and definitions of key terms. Chapter 2 presents a comprehensive literature review covering ten key aspects related to groundwater quality assessment, geospatial techniques, urban water management, contamination sources, and previous studies in similar contexts. Chapter 3 outlines the research methodology, including data collection methods, sampling techniques, laboratory analysis procedures, geospatial tools and techniques employed, and statistical analysis approaches. The chapter also discusses the study area selection criteria, sample size determination, and quality control measures implemented to ensure the reliability and validity of the research findings. In Chapter 4, the findings of the research are presented and discussed in detail. The spatial distribution of water quality parameters such as pH, turbidity, total dissolved solids, and heavy metal concentrations are analyzed using geospatial techniques to identify hotspots of contamination and assess the impact of land use activities on groundwater quality. The results are compared with relevant water quality standards and guidelines to evaluate the overall suitability of groundwater for various uses in urban areas. The concluding Chapter 5 summarizes the key findings of the study, discusses the implications for groundwater management in urban areas, and provides recommendations for future research and policy interventions. The research contributes to the understanding of groundwater quality dynamics in urban areas and highlights the importance of integrating geospatial techniques into water quality assessment and monitoring programs to support informed decision-making and sustainable development practices.
