Social media has become an integral part of modern society, with platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat connecting people around the world. While social media offers numerous benefits, there is growing concern about its impact on mental health. This research project aims to explore the relationship between social media use and mental health from a General Studies perspective. The study begins with an introduction that provides an overview of the topic and highlights the importance of understanding the impact of social media on mental health. The background of the study delves into the evolution of social media and its prevalence in society today. The problem statement identifies the key issues surrounding social media use and mental health, emphasizing the need for further research in this area. The objectives of the study include examining the potential effects of social media on mental health, identifying factors that contribute to these effects, and proposing strategies to promote positive mental health in the digital age. The limitations of the study are also acknowledged, including potential biases and the complexity of measuring mental health outcomes. The scope of the study focuses on the impact of social media on various aspects of mental health, such as self-esteem, body image, anxiety, and depression. The significance of the study lies in its potential to inform policymakers, educators, and mental health professionals about the risks and benefits of social media use. The structure of the research is outlined, detailing the organization of the subsequent chapters. Chapter Two provides a comprehensive literature review that synthesizes existing research on the impact of social media on mental health.
