The prevalence of social media platforms in contemporary society has brought about significant changes in the way individuals communicate, interact, and perceive themselves and others. This research project delves into the complex relationship between social media usage and mental health outcomes, focusing on a comparative analysis between Generation Z and Millennials. The study aims to explore how these two generations differ in their social media behaviors and the subsequent impact on their mental well-being. The research is structured into five chapters. Chapter One provides an introduction to the study, offering a background of the research topic, defining the problem statement, outlining the objectives, discussing the limitations and scope of the study, highlighting the significance of the research, and presenting the structure of the research along with key definitions of terms. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review encompassing ten key aspects related to social media use and mental health among Generation Z and Millennials. This section synthesizes existing research findings, theoretical frameworks, and empirical studies to provide a theoretical foundation for the current investigation. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology employed in this study. It includes detailed discussions on the research design, sampling techniques, data collection methods, data analysis procedures, ethical considerations, and the operationalization of variables. The chapter aims to elucidate the systematic approach adopted to address the research questions and objectives. Chapter Four presents the empirical findings derived from the comparative analysis of social media usage and mental health outcomes among Generation Z and Millennials. This section delves into seven key themes identified through data analysis, providing a detailed discussion of the implications and nuances of the results. Chapter Five serves as the conclusion and summary of the research project. It synthesizes the key findings, discusses their implications for theory and practice, offers recommendations for future research, and concludes with a reflection on the overarching impact of social media on the mental health of Generation Z and Millennials. In conclusion, this research project seeks to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the impact of social media on mental health, particularly through a comparative analysis between Generation Z and Millennials. By shedding light on the unique challenges and opportunities presented by social media use in these demographic groups, this study aims to inform interventions, policies, and practices that promote positive mental well-being in the digital age.
