This research project explores the complex relationship between social media usage and its impact on mental health from a General Studies perspective. The proliferation of social media platforms in recent years has significantly altered the way individuals communicate, interact, and perceive themselves and others. With the increasing reliance on social media for social connection, entertainment, and information dissemination, concerns have been raised regarding its potential effects on mental well-being. The study begins by providing an introduction to the topic, followed by a detailed background discussion on the evolution of social media and its widespread adoption across different demographic groups. The problem statement highlights the growing concern over the negative consequences of excessive social media use on mental health outcomes. The objectives of the study are outlined to investigate the specific ways in which social media impacts mental health, both positively and negatively. Limitations of the study are acknowledged, including potential biases in data collection and analysis, as well as the dynamic nature of social media platforms that may influence the study findings.
